Class Information

Introduced 1926. Maunsell rebuild of his earlier SECR "River" Class K 2-6-4T.
(a) Introduced 1928. New locos to same design as rebuilds but with smaller splashers and detail alterations.
31625 and 31797 temporarily converted to oil burning in 1947. Both subsequently reconverted for coal burning.

Southern Railway/BR Maunsell 2-6-0 No. 31807 at Norwood Junction Shed on Sunday 18th August 1963. A Maunsell rebuild of his earlier SECR "River" Class K 2-6-4T, it was rebuilt at Brighton Works in November 1926. It was withdrawn from Norwood Junction shed in January 1964 and cut up at Eastleigh Works in April 1964.
