Introduced 1903. Churchward GWR design. Earlier locos subsequently fitted with new boilers & superheaters.
(a) Introduced 1938. Collett locos with side-window cabs & detail alterations.
(b) Were converted for oil burning in 1947 (4800 number series) but reconverted to coal burning and rebumbered back in original series.
