Southern Railway/BR Bulleid unrebuilt West Country class 4-6-2 Pacific No. 34107 'Blandford Forum' at Exmouth Junction shed on 11th August 1964. Built at Brighton Works, it entered traffic in April 1950. It was withdrawn from 72A Exmouth Junction in October 1964 and cut by Birds, Morriston in December 1964. Classmate, rebuilt loco 34096 'Trevone' can be seen in the background.

The SR West Country and Battle of Britain classes, collectively known as Light Pacifics or informally as Spam Cans, were air-smoothed 4-6-2 Pacific steam locomotives designed for the Southern Railway by its Chief Mechanical Engineer Oliver Bulleid. Incorporating a number of new developments in British steam locomotive technology, they were amongst the first British designs to use welding in the construction process, and to use steel fireboxes, which meant that components could be more easily constructed under wartime austerity and post-war economy. Although separately called 'West Country' and 'Battle of Britain' Classes, there were no design differences, the locomotives being identical, apart for their names.

A schoolboy trainspotter in his school uniform consisting of an anorak, peaked school cap, shirt, tie, pullover, short trousers and knee socks poses in front of the loco. Although being slowly phased out, shorts and caps were items of school uniform common at this time.
