None condensing locomotives. 68782 employed as Departmental locomotive.
Built between 1892 and 1909, there were initially 117 locomotives in the class. The earlier engines had domeless boilers as first built, some being fitted with condensing apparatus for working through the Metropolitan tunnels.

Built at the Great Northern Railway Doncaster Works.

Withdrawals were heavy after 1954 and the last J52 survivors went in 1961.
