LNER Class Holden J Great Eastern Railway F5 2-4-2 Tank

Built 1911-20. Designed by J Holden. Rebuilt by S D Holden.

Total Number Built 30 - Total to BR 30.

Introduced 1911. S D Holden Great Eastern Railway rebuild with high-pressure boiler of Class F4.

Class total increased when two Class F6 locomotives were reclassified as Class F5 in 1948.

(a) Fitted with steam brakes and vacuum operated push-pull control apparatus in 1949 for working the Epping-Ongar services.

Built by: Great Eastern Railway Stratford Works.

At Nationalisation all the class was based at Stratford, Colchester and Parkeston sheds and all were withdrawn by 1958.
