Total Number Built 70 - Total to BR 34.

Introduced 1894. T W Worsdell North Eastern Railway (NER) Class P design with slide valves.

(a) Rebuilt by Raven from 1914 with superheater and piston valves.

(b) Rebuilt by Raven from 1914 with superheater and piston valves - superheater later removed (65644 superheated again by BR.)

(c) Rebuilt with piston valves.

Some engines retained the old North Eastern type of safety-valve column, although most had acquired pop safety valves.

Number Series 65600-65644 (with gaps - see Locomotive Numbers below).

The first loco withdrawn by the LNER was ??? in 1933 from ??? shed.

All were withdrawn by 1951.

The first loco withdrawn was 65639 on 7 February 1948 from York North shed.
