EE Type 3 Class 37/9 37902 (D6848, 37148) at Cardiff on 27 June 1991

Allocated to Cardiff Canton CF TMD in the FMHK metals pool, 37902 pilots 37716 double heading an up working of 30 bogie ore hoppers.

Built at EE Vulcan Foundry in June 1963 it went new to Cardiff Canton and remained primarily a Welsh and Scottish engine throughout its 39 year's service. It was withdrawn by EWS in June 2002 and sold to DRS as an engine testbed, before finally being cut up at Sims Metals, Nottingham in April 2005.

Just days before the photo, this loco was named "British Steel Llanwern" at Llanwern on 05 June 1991 to cement the relationship between BR Trainload Freight and British Steel.
