Southern Railway/British Railways Urie/Maunsell Class S15 4-6-0 No. 30841 at Woodham Brothers scrapyard, Barry, Wales on 18th August 1966. Built at Eastleigh Works in July 1936, it was withdrawn from 70B Feltham shed in January 1964. It is preserved at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and owned by the Essex Locomotive Society. It is currently stored awaiting overhaul. The locomotive's boiler and tender are currently in use on 825 - http://www.nymr.co.uk

The loco was a Maunsell development of the Urie design with higher boiler pressure, reduced cylinder diameter, smaller grate, modified cab and other detail alterations and was one of the final batch of 4-6-0 locomotives built by the Southern Railway.

The LSWR S15 class was a British 2-cylinder 4-6-0 freight steam locomotive designed by Robert W. Urie, based on his H15 class and N15 class locomotives. The class had a complex build history, spanning several years of construction from 1920 to 1936. The first examples were constructed for the London and South Western Railway (LSWR), where they hauled freight trains to the south coast ports and further west to Exeter, as well as occasional passenger work in conjunction with their larger-wheeled N15 class counterparts.

A trainspotter in his school uniform of peaked school cap, shirt, tie, pullover, blazer, short trousers and knee socks, looks intensly at the footplate controls. By 1966, school caps and shorts were no longer worn by the vast majority of boys, only public and grammar schools hanging on to them.
