Two English Electric Type 3s, D6866 (left) and D6865 under construction at Robert Stephenson and Hawthorns Works, Darlington on 21st July 1963. The locos were released into traffic on 9th september and 29th August respectively. D6865 was renumbered as Class 37 37165 and is currently allocated to the WNZX pool - EWS Locomotives for disposal. D6866 renumbered as Class 37 37166, then to Class 37/8 37891 before being withdrawn in September 2010 and cut up at EMR Attercliffe on 13 May 2011.

Two trainspotters pose beside the locos. One, Geoff Hamsher, is wearing a sheepskin jacket and slacks, carrying a BOAC bag. The other, David Matthews, wears a anorak and long trousers.
