90 riders took part today, the trial seemed to run well with queuing on just a couple of sections, the positive comments made to the team really do make it all worthwhile - thank you.The new computer did its job with no problems,I think we all had a good day out.A big thank you to all the observers and club members who helped out,we hope to see you all at Star farm on the 3rd of April, cheers,Jon. |

Sunday 3rd April 2011 - Trial |
ID 1416 Event : Star Farm Trial. |
Venue : Star Farm Marshfield., 10.30am |
A total of 61 riders tackled the 10 sections on the steep, stony bank at Star farm and the weather was kind to us.The terrain made a change from our usual venues with no mud at all.The landowner has indicated that next time we may be able to use the field opposite which is more like our usual venues. This was also used in the Knut many years ago with several riders recalling memories of riding there amongst some famous names in the trials world.
Some of the sections became easier, some harder - its never easy to tell how they will ride. From the many positive comments the team had I think it must have been about right.
My calculations show we will be able to pass on £513.60 to the Macmillan cancer appeal, including £75 of donations.
Thank you all - riders, observers and helpers for making this event work,it will be interesting to see how we can use the field next time.

Sunday 29th May 2011 - Trial |
ID 1417 Event : Compton Dando Trial. |
Venue : Fairy Hill,Comton Dando, 10.30. |
Sixty six of us wobbled round the ten sections, but we were surprised by the results - the five dry sections in the woods took more marks than we thought. The stream sections brought water up onto the banks and made the going a bit more slippery, except for section ten which was a bit of a main road.It shows how sections can change quickly as only Dr bob managed to clean it when we marked out.His bike is not on Pirelli tyres so was able to find grip.(Pirelli tyres being the sub committee joke of the weekend)
Overall it seemed to work well with lots of positive comments, thanks again to all the helpers and observers without which there would be no trial.
Hope to see you all at Lambs Lair, and dont forget the trials demo at Heddington if you want to do some practicing and enjoy the show.
Cheers for now,Jon. |

Friday 1st July 2011 - Trial |
ID 1425 Event : STOLEN |
Venue : Bath Area, 12:00 |
Three bikes stolen on Thursday night, July 1st. Anyone in the Bath area should watch out. It is a detached garage, the thieves broke into the roof to disable the alarm then broke open the garage door. A fairly unusual collection of bikes was taken which could be easily identified.
1983 red Yamaha XT550. It has a huge red Acerbis plastic desert tank, red Acerbis rear mudguard, Oakley sticker on one side panel but no writing or stickers on the tank. It is a multiple MCC and long distance trial (including Swindonian) award winner and worth a great deal to me. Frame and engine number 5YR136057.
1988 Yamaha YZ250WR. Very unusual enduro bike, with big plastic tank. Usual YZ stickers etc, but frame powder coated dark blue, seat a light purple with a timecard holder towards the front. When stolen it had a Pirelli MT43 trials tyre on the rear from a recent enduro. Frame number JYA3RBW05KA000977, engine number 3RB-000977.
1982 Fantic 200. Almost entirely standard, and therefore unusual, but in superb condition. Regularly ridden in Bath Classic trials. Original footrests, original black plastic sump guard, WES tail pipe, unusual black mark on right hand side panel from falling onto the trailer tyre. Frame number FM19641OM.
Trowbridge police are handling the case who can be contacted on 0845 4087000, log number 71, Friday July 1st, Pc 994. I can be contacted on 01249 465229, please ask for John.
I will pay a £500 reward for information which leads to recovery of the bikes and the apprehension of the thieves.

ID 1424 Event : Trials Demonstration. |
Venue : Heddington., 10.30 am |
http://www.heddingtonandstockley.co.uk/steamrally/2011rally
What a weekend,I'm cream crackered ! Saturday and Sunday thrashing around 7 very different, but at times challenging, sections in glorious summer sunshine has taken its toll. - Entertaining the paying public is hard work, esp on the Ariel....
From all the positive comments, from riders, organisers and visitors I think we can judge this demo as a resounding success.Plenty of interest, even from visitors from across the water, more people now have an idea about what classic trials is all about.
A big thank you to all who took part,I hope you ache as much as I do !
See you at The Lair at the end of July, cheers Jon. |

Bring out the small stuff! A run for any machine of any age as long as its under 350cc or a sidevalve.
This year we have been invited to Heddington & Stockley Steam Fair. So the thought was to have our usual run round and then arrive at the show ground around about lunchtime. They would like us to stay for the afternoon and are even suggesting we have a ride around the ring.

Sunday 31st July 2011 - Trial |
ID 1418 Event : Lambs Lair Trial. |
Venue : Lambs Lair., 10.30. |
We had 83 riders at the Lair today and judging by the number of thank you's during and after the trial it must have suited the riders.being so dry made the going between sections a pleasure where it can be a challenge in wet weather.
Again a nice selection of bikes going round and conditions that made life easier for the observers - of which we had a surplus for a change....
A big thank you to all who took part, riders, observers, and all the helpers without which the trial couldnt happen.(Esp the Scottish connection.)
Hope to see you all at the next trial at Star Farm on Sept 18th,it should be a good one, cheers Jon. |

Sunday 18th September 2011 - Trial |
ID 1419 Event : Star Farm Trial. |
Venue : Star Farm,Marshfield., 10.30 |
The hard work paid off,62 riders rode today thankfully in between the heavy showers. The sections did change quite a bit during the trial, the ones on the grass,(Esp section 1) got easier, wheras 6,7 and 10 in the stream got considerably harder as the water came up the banks. The muddy slots on the way out of the stream became deeper and the tree roots on the exit of section 10 on the hard route became very interesting.(Much to mark Vining's amusement as he was obsverving)
Section 7 also became a real challenge on the first exit from the stream for the B route riders, but there was not really anything we could do to ease it.
Thanks again for all the positve comments from riders,a quick count up shows we will be sending around £470 to the Macmillan cancer appeal. The money wont go off till the next club meeting so the donation box is still open.
Finally a big thank you to Mike and Al for such a massive input during cutting/marking out.Sandy and Nick for doing the admin/computer work, and not forgetting the observers of course.
The results are up for you all to mull over, thats it for now,see you all at Perry's,Lansdown.Cheers, Jon. |

Sunday 23rd October 2011 - Trial |
ID 1420 Event : Lansdown Trial. |
Venue : Perry's Farm Lansdown.BA1 9BU, 10.30 |
Thanks to the weather holding out,91 riders sampled the delights of sections in the woods at Perrys. With so many riders there was always going to be some queueing, but hopefully it gave you a chance for a chat/drink/nibble or rest as the case may be.The sections were typical of the venue, taking marks if you didnt pay 100% attention. Many marks were lost by riders going the wrong way or missing flags - this has been my method of incresing my score for many years, nice to see it works for others too !
With only 2 clean rides on the A route and none on the B route, looking at the scores the sections must have been about right, the team rode and cleaned all the sections the day before.Again showing how difficult it is to judge how they will ride.
As always a big thank you to Wendy and Nic for taking the entries and doing the computer work,Mike,Al and Bob for marking out and to our trusty observers without whom we could not run.
Our next trial is on Dec 11th at Ayford farm near Marshfield,I'll be starting to plan that one in the next week or so,hopefully it will be without snow this year.Cheers for now,Jon.
.P.S. A black quilted bodywarmer was handed in at the end of the trial it has a dark red lining to the collar. There is no name tag,but it has a tag with George on it,I assume this is the maker.Call me if its yours or I'll take it along to the next trial at Ayford farm if its not claimed. |

As last year please go to Marshfield first and follow the Castrol arrows - DO NOT try to get there via St Catherines lane.

PLEASE NOTE. Bath and West of England club are also holding their Knut trial on the same day near Dyrham Park - just south of the M4 off the A46 heading towards Bath.
